Johns Hopkins School of Education students are encouraged to register for courses as early as possible.
Only students admitted to a graduate degree or certificate program (or graduate non-degree special status) may register for courses. Please register early to secure your seat and to avoid a course closing because maximum capacity is reached or cancellation for low enrollment.
Continuous Enrollment Policy
A continuous enrollment policy is in effect starting in the fall 2024 semester. The policy requires that all SOE students matriculated in degree-seeking programs register each Fall and Spring semester for a minimum of one credit-bearing course until they have completed their degree, unless granted a voluntary leave of absence (LOA).
Students who do not register each fall or spring semester registration deadline must request a voluntary LOA to remain in active status. Students who fail to enroll or receive an approved LOA will be made inactive and dropped from the rolls due to enrollment inactivity in the second week after the start of the semester. Students with an inactive status will need to reapply for admission. Learn more.
Registration Login
Registration for online and in-person courses can be completed online using the Student Information System (SIS) portal, which requires a JHED ID and a JHU email account.
Please note that students may not sit in on a class without being officially registered for that class, nor should they contact instructors to request permission to register for or attend a closed course. Students who fail to complete their registration and sit in on a class will not receive a grade or credit for attending class.
All outstanding debts to Johns Hopkins University must be paid to register for courses.
Registration Deadlines
Registration opens several months before each semester begins (see the Academic Calendar). Students who have been admitted to a program may register for courses online using the SIS Self-Service portal which is available 24 hours a day.
Registration Fees
Students will be charged tuition fees and a non-refundable $175 registration fee when initially registering for courses each semester. Following the initial course registration, students may register for additional courses without being subject to any additional course registration fees. Registrations are processed as they are received.
Elective Offerings
Please view SIS Self-Service for a current list of master’s level courses available as electives and consult with your adviser if you have questions.
