Thank You, Summer Interns!

On Wednesday, August 15, the Johns Hopkins School of Education celebrated the contributions of 18 interns who participated in Johns Hopkins Summer Jobs Program. The program gives Baltimore City students the opportunity to complete an eight-week-long, paid internship in one of various departments throughout the Johns Hopkins Health System and the university.

The 18 high school students—the school’s highest number to date—worked in both Columbia and Homewood locations, in roles ranging from office administration to IT support, and in offices from the Center for Technology in Education to Development and Alumni Relations.

“I receive calls and emails from those young people even from years ago, and they tell me how much it meant to them to have this opportunity, ” says School of Education’s Sr. Human Resources Coordinator Jacqueline Clements, who coordinated SOE’s participation in the program.

Now in its 24th year, the program enrolled a record 461 interns across the university and health system this summer. The interns worked 30 hours a week for eight weeks with mentors who provided training in specific projects Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, the students took part in professional development seminars.

On Friday, August 17, they were honored in a program-wide ceremony in Turner Auditorium on the East Baltimore campus.
