The mission of the Data and Statistics Consultant (DSC) is to facilitate SOE students’ and faculty’s research progress by providing expert guidance and resources in statistical methodologies and software. Through personalized appointments and drop-in office hours, the consultant will help enhance the understanding of statistical concepts and choices, facilitate effective data analysis, and more broadly contribute to the research rigor of the SOE community.

- I am taking a statistics course this semester. Can I reach out to the DSC for my assignment-related questions?
The DSC offers support for research projects outside of courses. If you have course or assignment-related statistical questions, please contact your teaching assistant and course faculty first before contacting the DSC.
- Can I get help with my thesis or dissertation data analysis?
Yes, the DSC provides support for thesis and dissertation data analysis. During individual appointments or drop-in office hours, please bring a brief summary of your project and specific questions or issues you are facing.
- What types of statistical software do you provide support for?
The DSC mainly offers support for Stata. If you use a different software such as R, please reach out ahead of time with specific questions.
- Should I sign up for individual appointments or drop-in office hours?
Individual appointments are for more detailed questions and in-depth assistance with a project or analysis. Drop-in office hours are for quick questions, software issues, and other brief assistance.
- How can I schedule an individual appointment?
You can schedule a 45-min individual appointment through this link. Please sign up at least 24 hours before your appointment time. Availability is on a first come, first served basis.
- What should I prepare before my appointment?
Upon signing up, you will receive a confirmation email for your appointment. Please reply to the email and send your Stata do-files (if applicable) and a clear description of the issues or questions you have. This will help the DSC provide more effective and targeted support.
- When are the drop-in office hours?
Drop-in office hours are held every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 1-2 p.m. ET. No appointment is needed. You can simply join the Zoom room during these hours for immediate assistance.
