David Peloff, MA

Dave Peloff leads the Center for Technology in Education’s research and development related to emerging educational technologies. As Associate Director of CTE, Dave also leads the team that creates tools, software, and data systems that support the Center’s work, including the Ready for Kindergarten Online assessment system that is widely deployed across five U.S. states. Other systems developed include the Maryland Online IEP and IFSP, the Electronic Learning Community, the Digital Portfolio, and the Virtual Learning Environment (in collaboration with the JHU Applied Physics Laboratory). Research interests include an examination of how gaming and simulation technologies can be leveraged to promote learning, and the use of touch-screen devices in the formative assessment of young children. Dave teaches the graduate course ‘Gaming and Simulations for Learning’ in JHU’s International Teaching and Global Leadership program.

Federal STARS Schools II: Learning Games to Go, a Partnership with Maryland Public Television (MPT). Funded by U.S. Department of Education to design, implement, and investigate the use of gaming and simulation technologies to address mathematics and literacy objectives (2005 to 2008).

Federal STARS Schools I: Maryland Digital Schools, a Partnership with Maryland Public Television (MPT). Technical Coordinator. Funded by U.S. Department of Education to build and implement technology-supported tools and practices to help teachers improve instructional delivery, technology use, and communication with parents (2000 to 2005).

Maryland Online IEP Initiative. Funded by MSDE to develop an online IEP system to collect data on children and youth with disabilities for more informed decision making at the state, local, district, and classroom level (2003 to present).
