Irene Ramirez is a doctoral student at the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University. Her research interests derive from nearly 10 years of teaching English as a Second Language, basic literacy skills, and preparation for a high school diploma or equivalent in California. Inspired by her students’ educational experiences in the United States and abroad, Irene grew interested in improving instructional practices and accountability in adult literacy programs. As an English learner and child of immigrants, Irene also aims to research dropout prevention through interventions and support for diverse learners.
