School of Education assistant professors Faith Connolly, director of the Baltimore Education Research Consortium; and Jeffrey Grigg, faculty affiliate of BERC and the Center for Social Organization of Schools, were among 108 faculty members from across the university celebrated on Oct. 2 as Discovery Award winners.

In 2018, 30 Discovery Awards were given to interdisciplinary faculty teams across eight Johns Hopkins divisions, as a way to bridge the university to solve significant problems and spark new creative endeavors. Altogether, the winning project teams—chosen from 190 proposals—include 108 individuals representing all 10 university divisions, as well as University Libraries and Museums.

Connolly and Grigg are members of a cross-divisional team—along with Bloomberg School of Public Health faculty Rashelle Musci and Heather Volk—that is performing a population study investigating the effect of lead exposure on educational outcomes.
