Jessica Nare (she/her) serves as the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the Johns Hopkins School of Education. She is responsible for leading strategic efforts focused on the recruitment, retention, and achievement of students, faculty, and staff at the School of Education through community engagement and belonging practices.

Before joining Johns Hopkins, Nare previously served as the Assistant Vice President for Community and Belonging at San Diego State University where she led community centers and interfaith programs including: APIDA Center, Center for Intercultural Relations, Latinx Resource Center, Native Resource Center, Pride Center, Project Rebound, Undocumented Resource Center, Women’s Center, Interfaith Programs for Muslim & Jewish Life, and the Educational Opportunity Program for low-income, first generation college students. From 2021- 2024, she chaired SDSU’s Presidential Task Force on Addressing Antisemitism. In addition to her administrative roles, Nare has held faculty appointments in Women’s Studies, Sociology, and Global Studies. Before her time in higher education, Nare worked in social services, serving as the Director of Leadership Programs at Jewish Family Service. She has received national recognition for her innovative work with women and girls and her development of youth leadership programs.

Nare holds a bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies from Ohio Wesleyan University, a master’s degree in Women’s Studies from San Diego State University and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of California, San Diego.
