The EdD Initiative Scholarship is a need-based, multi-year award specifically designed to support the academic success of students enrolled in the Doctor of Education (EdD) program.
Funded through a generous gift from Bloomberg Philanthropies, this need-based scholarship assists Johns Hopkins EdD students for up to three years of study.
Eligibility for the EdD Initiative Scholarship will be assessed automatically upon the submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Recipients will be notified of their scholarship status upon admission.

Eligibility and Requirements
The EdD Initiative Scholarship is awarded based on a student’s financial need, based on the submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All EdD-admitted students who complete the FAFSA will be automatically considered for the EdD Initiative Scholarship.
General Terms and Conditions
The general terms and conditions for the EdD Initiative Scholarship are as follows:
- Recipients must satisfy all pre-enrollment and pre-orientation requirements and assignments established by the EdD program.
- Recipients must register for a minimum of six (6) credit hours of coursework in the fall semester and six (6) credit hours in the spring semester during the first year. For subsequent years enrolled in the program, EdD students must register for at least six (6) credit hours each semester.
- Scholarship funds are only valid for the year they are awarded and cannot be transferred to a new academic year. To maintain the scholarship, recipients are required to maintain satisfactory academic progress, continue at a consistent pace within the EdD program, and re-submit the FAFSA annually by January 15.
