Paula Kim-Christian is a PhD candidate at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education. Her research examines the impact of education and social policy, institutional structures, and adult capacity on migration-affected students. She is particularly interested in approaches and interventions that address chronic absenteeism, promote positive school climate and safety, and support families and communities. Her broader interests include the social, emotional, and cognitive development of students and adults who experience the wider contextual consequences of migration.
Before joining the doctoral program, Paula served as the Research and Policy Associate for the Aspen Institute’s National Commission on Social, Emotional, and Academic Development. She also supported first-generation college students at Georgetown University; advised faculty and graduate students at Cornell University who sought to rebuild earthquake-affected education systems in Nepal; and assisted the Global Health Initiative at Brown University. A former teacher, Paula taught English in Peru, India, and South Korea.
