Matthew W. Bonner received the Master of Science (MS) degree in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Counselor Education from Old Dominion University. His scholarly research in peer reviewed journals has included international students and supervision, black men and support systems in academia, assessment in counseling, grading rigor, and gatekeeping in counselor education.
In regional and national conferences, Bonner’s professional presentations have encompassed topics involving ethical issues, spirituality assessments in minority populations, black men and the professoriate, and spiritual integration in counseling. He is a member of the American Counseling Association, Association of Counselor Education and Supervision, Association of Humanistic Counseling, and the Southern Association of Counselor Education and Supervision. As a licensed counselor in the state of Maryland, Bonner has provided counseling to clients who could not pay for services in Maryland through the Pro Bono Counseling Project.
