The School of Education welcomes two new faculty members to the special education program, Rebecca Cruz and Alexandra Shelton, beginning July 1, 2021. Following a nationwide faculty search, the addition of these two outstanding scholars broadens the program’s range of expertise in important areas of both research and practice.
Cruz received her PhD in special education from a joint doctoral program between University of California, Berkeley, and San Francisco State University. Her research interests include sociology of education, longitudinal data analysis and QuantCrit methodological frameworks, educational stratification, educational equity, and critical disability theory.
Shelton received her PhD in special education from the University of Maryland. Her research focuses on improving literacy outcomes for secondary students with mild disabilities, including mild intellectual disability and learning disabilities, via intensive intervention and teacher professional development and coaching.
