A nationally respected scholar of education policy, Jay Plasman, PhD, studies the pathways that help students move successfully from high school to college, career, and meaningful work. His research focuses especially on college and career readiness, career and technical education, workforce development, and the educational experiences that shape student engagement, self-efficacy, and long-term outcomes.

‌Jay also brings a valuable connection to Johns Hopkins. Before joining the faculty at The Ohio State University, he served as a postdoctoral fellow with the Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy. His return to our school comes at an important moment, as we continue to strengthen our research capacity, expand our work in education policy, and deepen our commitment to producing solutions-focused research.

‌As the Jeffrey Alexander Grigg Endowed Professor, Jay will bring intellectual leadership to some of the most urgent conversations in education today: how we prepare young people for rapidly changing futures; how schools can build stronger bridges between academic learning, postsecondary opportunity, and the workforce; and how evidence can guide policies that better serve students, families, and communities. Some of Jay’s most recent work highlights the importance of providing access to high-quality career development opportunities across Baltimore.
