Chioma Anah, EdD, ATR, LCPC, NCC, ACS is a Lecturer in the counseling program at Johns Hopkins School of Education. Chioma earned her MA in art therapy from Hofstra University, her C.A.G.S. from Johns Hopkins University, and her EdD in counseling psychology from Argosy University.

Previously, Chioma was an Adjunct Faculty at Notre Dame of Maryland University in their Master of Art in Art Therapy Program, and Johns Hopkins University’s CMHC program. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC-MD); a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC); Registered Art Therapist (ATR) and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS).

Chioma is a Founding Member and the Executive Director of Maryland Counselors for Social Justice (MCSJ), and a member of several professional associations and organizations, including: the American Counseling Association (ACA) and (CSJ) Division; Maryland Counseling Association (MCA); the American Art Therapy Association (AATA); Chi Sigma Iota (Hofstra University Lambda Nu Chapter); and the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).

Chioma’s research agenda examines the importance of cultural humility as a crucial tool in the delivery of culturally responsive counseling for clients from marginalized groups. She specializes in the racial microaggressions, cultural and global trauma, and art and complementary approaches as pathways to mental wellness and improved treatment outcomes in marginalized communities.

Her scholarship has been published in international publications, and she regularly presents in national, state and local counseling and art therapy conferences. Chioma was recognized with the Outstanding Organization award in 2019 by Maryland Counseling Association. In 2025, she received the ‘OHANA Award from Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ), and also in 2025, was honored with the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award. In 2024, Chioma authored her first text book Art Therapy for Racial Trauma, Microaggressions and Inequality: Social Justice and Advocacy in Therapy Work, published by Jessica Kingsley, UK, which is being used in several counseling and art therapy programs around the world.
