Lindi Shepard is a doctoral candidate at Johns Hopkins School of Education. Her research interests explore how students learn through interactions with the more-than-human world and ways to leverage environmental education as an integrating context for the development of critical thinking, metacognition, and literacy skills. Prior to her doctoral work, Lindi was a classroom teacher in early childhood and elementary classrooms and developed appreciation for the need to translate learning sciences research into practice. As a recipient of the Arthur Zankel Urban Fellowship, she worked as an instructional coach supporting teachers and schools around the globe at Columbia University’s Center for the Professional Education of Teachers. She continues to support educators and students through her work with Words in the Wild, an Oakland-based non-profit that provides literacy services and teacher education through an innovative learning-lab model.
