The Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy research team brings deep quantitative and qualitative experience along with a solid understanding of education issues to answer the most pressing curriculum questions for education departments, school system leaders, publishers, and nonprofits.

We can combine customized research elements with our existing tools or conduct customized research as a single component.

Assessment Alignment and Content Development

Under IADA authority from the U.S. Department of Education, the Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy is partnering with the Louisiana Department of Education to align for-stakes, state assessments with the state’s most commonly used ELA curricula. This innovative model shows great initial promise, and is potentially transferable to other states.

Curriculum Development and Evaluation

IEP works with publishers and districts as they develop new content in English language arts and social studies. We provide ongoing reviews, based on our Knowledge Maps, that give real-time information on the quality, coherence, and knowledge building of new units.

Curriculum Equity Audit

Our team works with school system leaders, publishers, and nonprofits, to review the cultural relevance and representation of English language arts and social studies materials. In spring 2023, we completed a review of seminal content identified by UnidosUS as important to the Hispanic/Latinx American experience.

Curriculum and Standards Crosswalk

Our team often conducts crosswalks between English language arts and social studies curricula, and national or state-specific standards.
