Sean Newhart, PhD

Assistant Professor

Sean Newhart is an assistant professor in the Johns Hopkins University School of Education. He earned his doctoral degree in counselor education from the College of William & Mary and his master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Clemson University. He teaches graduate students in the Counseling master’s degree program, with a focus on clinical mental health counseling. Sean is a member of ACA, ACES, and ACCA. He is a National Certified Counselor, a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor in the state of Maryland. He presents at state, regional, national, and international conferences in the field of counseling along with publishing articles in peer-reviewed scholarly journals. He also serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Counseling & Development and the Journal of College Counseling. His clinical interests include working with college students, couples, and families. His general research interests include college counseling, the influence of family systems on mental health, and counselor development.
