Routine functions like budgetary processes, school choice, and transportation are currently divorced from the safe schools conversation. All of these issues and their impact on safe learning environments must be understood by school leaders and policymakers.<\/p>\n<p>Research conducted by the Johns Hopkins Center for Safe and Healthy Schools bridges the gap between school and community functions, taking in school and district leadership, neighborhood safety, classroom size, transportation, and parental involvement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If we are to improve school safety, we must better understand the characteristics that link schools and the communities they serve.
