School Security and Technology
School leaders are confronted by a bewildering array of security solutions. Many of these have not been tested for their effectiveness or efficacy.
Yet, these leaders are being asked to make important, immediate decisions to meet public demand that they address safety concerns in schools. Much more evidence is needed to provide school leaders with the ability to discern which of the numerous applications, technologies, and physical security barriers available to schools will provide effective safety solutions.
The Center for Safe and Healthy Schools will produce innovative, evidence-based research that can used to determine school needs and the efficacy of school safety technology and personnel. Research conducted by the Center for Safe and Healthy Schools will connect an evidence-based understanding of school safety technology, physical barriers, the role of school resource officers (SROs), and relationships with local police departments to a school’s ability to create safe and healthy learning environments.
