World Teachers' Day - October 5, 2012

World Teachers’ Day (October 5th) was created by UNESCO in 1994 to celebrate and mobilize support for teachers worldwide. Each year addresses a theme designed to ensure that the world’s largest professionally-trained group can “meet the needs of future generations.” Johns Hopkins University’s School of Education takes this commemoration seriously.

In partnership with Teachers Without Borders, we are working with East Baltimore Community School (EBCS) to engage students and teachers around this year’s theme: “Stand Up for Teachers.” This October 5th, the SOE will host EBCS 5th graders and their teachers in a global video dialogue with teachers in China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Mexico and launch a series of activities and projects that will last all year.
