Professional Immersion Programs
The School of Education at Johns Hopkins University, in partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), offers master's degree programs in education for those interested in becoming:
- Secondary General Education Teachers (Mathematics, Spanish, Chemistry, Physics)
- Early Childhood Teachers
- Elementary Spanish Immersion Teachers
- Elementary Advanced Math Teachers (NEW)
- Special Education Teachers
Programs beginning May 2010: ProMAT (Secondary General Education, Early Childhood, Elementary Spanish Immersion, or Elementary Advanced Math) and ProSEMS (Special Education).
NOTE: Subject area changes for Montgomery ProMAT as of September 30, 2009. The subject areas for the cohort which starts in May 2010 are: Secondary Math, Chemistry, Physics, or Spanish. The Primary areas are: Early Childhood, Elementary Spanish Immersion, or Elementary Advanced Math.
Benefits
- Some tuition, books, and fees paid by MCPS after the first six graduate credits
- Candidates are paid while teaching full time in MCPS
- Two-year comprehensive and rigorous master's program leads to:
- Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Secondary General Education, Early Childhood, Elementary Spanish Immersion, or Elementary Advanced Math
- Master of Science (MS) in Teaching Students with Mild to Moderate Disabilities
- Eligibility for Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification in Special Education (generic), Secondary General Education (subject area), Early Childhood Education, or Elementary Education (Spanish Immersion or Advanced Math)
- JHU coursework and MCPS classroom experience throughout the program
You will need to commit to teach in MCPS after completing the program.
