Professional Immersion Programs

The School of Education at Johns Hopkins University, in partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), offers master's degree programs in education for those interested in becoming:

  • Secondary General Education Teachers (English, Mathematics, Spanish, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics)
  • Early Childhood Teachers
  • Elementary Foreign Language Immersion (Chinese or Spanish) Teachers
  • Special Education Teachers

Programs beginning May 2010: ProMAT (Secondary General Education, Early Childhood, or Elementary Foreign Language Immersion) and ProSEMS (Special Education).

Benefits

  • Some tuition, books, and fees paid by MCPS after the first six graduate credits
  • Candidates are paid while teaching full time in MCPS
  • Two-year comprehensive and rigorous master's program leads to:
    • Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Secondary General Education, Early Childhood, or Elementary Foreign Language Immersion
    • Master of Science (MS) in Teaching Students with Mild to Moderate Disabilities
    • Eligibility for Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification in Special Education (generic), Secondary General Education (subject area), Early Childhood Education, or Elementary Education (Foreign Language Immersion)
  • JHU coursework and MCPS classroom experience throughout the program

You will need to commitment to teach in MCPS after completing the program.
