Professional Immersion Programs
The School of Education at Johns Hopkins University, in partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), offers master's degree programs in education for those interested in becoming:
- Secondary General Education Teachers (English, Mathematics, Spanish, Biology, Chemistry, Earth/Space/Environmental Science, Physics)
- English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Teachers
- Elementary Foreign Language Immersion (Chinese, French, or Spanish) Teachers
- Special Education Teachers
Programs begin Summer 2009 ProMAT (Secondary General Education, ESOL, or Elementary Foreign Language Immersion) and ProSEMS (Special Education).
Benefits
- All tuition, books, and fees paid by MCPS after the first six graduate credits
- Stipend paid when candidates are teaching full time in MCPS
- Two-year comprehensive and rigorous master's program leads to:
- Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Secondary General Education, ESOL, or Elementary Foreign Language Immersionor
- Master of Science (MS) in Teaching Students with Mild to Moderate Disabilities
- Eligibility for Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification in Special Education (generic), Secondary General Education (subject area), ESOL, or Elementary Education (Foreign Language Immersion)
- JHU coursework and MCPS classroom experience throughout the program
There is a three-year commitment to teach in MCPS after completing the program.
