School of Education at Johns Hopkins University - Graduate Education Programs:

Support SOE

UPDATE 11/20/09: Click here to view "Lasting Lessons," our new series of interviews with School of Education alumni. The first installment features Ellen Gaske, executive director of High Road Academy.

As we launch our second century of leadership in public education as a top-ten-ranked school in the nation, the School of Education must continue finding ways to enhance student performance in under-resourced schools, promote evidence-based educational practices, and - most important of all - recruit and prepare those individuals who will become the next generation of leaders in the fields of education, counseling, and public safety. As you can imagine, the need for financial support from our alumni and friends has never been greater.

Gifts to the Johns Hopkins School of Education take various forms, and gifts of all sizes are required to help us fulfill our mission.

  • Unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund, which provides resources not covered by tuition and fees, are used wherever the need is the greatest. Annual Fund gifts help cover faculty salaries, student scholarships, guest speaker fees, and program support. The Annual Fund year begins July 1 and ends on June 30 of each year.
  • Restricted gifts, such as endowed funds for our work in the public schools, named scholarships in honor of our 100th anniversary, faculty chairs, or research projects, allow a donor the opportunity to target his or her philanthropy to a specific area of interest or need. To discuss a gift of this type, please contact Henry Smith, associate dean for development and alumni relations, 410-516-7987 or henry.smith@jhu.edu.
  • Legacy gifts, by bequest or other creative means, are a wonderful choice for many donors who wish to provide for the school in their long-term plans. If you are interested in draft wording or ways to receive an income for life, contact Kate Caldwell, director of development, 410-516-7883 or kcaldwell@jhu.edu, or visit the JHU Planned Giving website.

Alumni and friends of the school also give back their time through various volunteer activities. From hosting an event to guest blogging to serving as an officer of a student/alumni organization, there are many ways to get involved. Please click here to learn more.
