The Johns Hopkins University School of Education (SOE) is the nation’s top ranked graduate school of education as announced Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report. This marks the second consecutive year the school has been named #1.
“We are proud to be named the leading school two years in a row. The recognition validates our commitment to recruiting the best and brightest students, and assuring them access to world class scholars and extraordinary research opportunities,” said David W. Andrews, Dean. “The hard work and commitment of our students, faculty, staff and alumni to improve educational opportunities for all learners has led to this national recognition.”
In the past year, the School of Education has expanded its doctoral programs (Ph.D. and Ed.D.), led the way in developing evidence-based models of instruction, and attracted an increasing number of top scholars to its faculty. Through the doctoral programs, SOE is recruiting outstanding national and international candidates whose goal is to be change-agents committed to improving education practice and policy. Three research centers, housed within SOE, are dedicated to finding new and better ways for children to learn, and improving the complementary services that foster a robust learning environment. Their combined programs serve more than 300,000 students in 1,640 schools in 47 states. The School’s Division of Public Safety Leadership has produced some of the country’s leading public safety officials at the local, state, and federal levels. Additionally, SOE operates a high-performing early childhood center and K-8 school, Elmer A. Henderson: A Johns Hopkins Partnership School, located in a low-income inner city neighborhood.
“We are excited to be the nation’s #1 school of education,” Andrews said. “We cannot forget the work that remains to ensure that all children, regardless of where they live, have access to a quality education to reach their full potential and have productive lives.”
