School of Education/Teach for America alum Bill Ferguson won an uphill battle to earn his seat in the Maryland legislature - toppling six-term incumbent George Della in the democratic primary to become just the second TFA alum to earn a spot in a state assembly.

This year, at least six TFA alums are running for statewide office, looking to join Ferguson and Colorado State Senator Mike Johnson in the TFA cadre of politicians.
