Johns Hopkins School of Education Graduation 2016

Caps and Gowns

I reserved a cap and gown or I forgot to order one, what can I do?
A representative of the bookstore will be stationed near the student check in tables on the lower level of the arena.   He or she will come with orders that have not been picked up and will have a few extras in case someone did not order one at all.  The student will need to give their credit card information to pay for one.

What side should the tassel be on?
Since our students’ degrees will be conferred at the school-wide ceremony the next morning, our students should wear the tassel on the left side.

Can I keep the tassel as a souvenir?
Yes.

Where can I drop off my cap & gown?
You are allowed to keep these gowns.  We do not take returns.  However, if you would like to donate your cap and gown for next year’s graduates, please drop off your gown at your convenience, to the nearest School of Education campus and address it to Peggy Flynn, Registrar’s Office.

Ceremony

How long will the ceremony last?
The procession will begin at 9:00a.m.with students being seated by 9:15a.m. The ceremony should last approximately 2.5 hours and end by 11:30a.m.

Can I sit with my friend who is also graduating?
Yes, as long as it is within the same degree and division. Your friend should walk in front or behind you.

Can I leave as soon as my name is called and I cross the stage?
We ask that all candidates remain seated until the end of the ceremony. Diplomas for May graduates will be available after the ceremony has ended.

Note:  T- Shirt and flower sales will be located on the upper floor of the arena near the entrance to the building.  T-shirts can be personalized with the candidate’s name, and purchased after the ceremony.

Photographs

Will a photographer be taking pictures?
Yes.  The photographer will take 2 pictures; one of the student in line and one shaking hands with the Dean.

How do I order my photos?
The photographer will send ordering information and proofs right after graduation.  You can also go online.

Note: GradImages is the official photographer for our Commencement. Proofs will be sent to your home and via email within three to five days after graduation. Pictures can be ordered online, by phone or by mail. Graduation Images can be contacted at 800-261-2576 or via email at www.gradimages.com

Diplomas

I am getting a Master’s Degree tonight, but I should also be getting a certificate.  Will my certificate be available tonight?
Students receiving a degree and a certificate(s) will have both in their envelopes.

I applied late to graduate – will my diploma be here tonight?
Students whose graduation application was received after March 1 will not have a diploma tonight.  Students who applied in March or April will not have their diplomas ordered until the first week in June and these should come in during the month of September. The Registrar’s Office will mail the diplomas as soon as they arrive.

I have moved and would like to give my new address so my diploma can be mailed.  Who should I contact?
You can email soe.registration@jhu.edu with your information.  Please specify that you are on the graduation list so that both the graduation database and registration system can be updated.

Can I pick up my diploma instead?
If you would like to pick up your diploma in person you must notify the registrar’s office. Pick up dates and times are May 23rd to May 26th from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and May 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Columbia Center. Candidates inquire at the reception desk.  ID is required for diploma pick up.
