Laura R. B. Broughton received her J.D. from The Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America, and M.A. in liaison special education from George Washington University and is an Ed.D. candidate in mild to moderate disabilities with a minor in school administration and supervision at Johns Hopkins University. She has been working with new teachers in several capacities for over six years, and she brings extensive experience in new teacher training and mentoring. She has spent over 10 years serving in several educational administrative capacities including as the educational director for a nonpublic school in Baltimore City. She has served as University Supervisor for graduate students in special education for Johns Hopkins University for over six years. For two years, she coordinated a new teacher training and mentoring program for graduate students in mild to moderate disabilities in partnership with the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS). Last year she began coordinating a graduate certificate in the education of students with autism hybrid face-to-face and online program on behalf of Johns Hopkins University for a Maryland State Department of Education partnership grant. She serves as the project director of the Johns Hopkins University Secondary Support Initiative (JHUSSI), which is a collaborative special/general education pre-service improvement project that seeks to expand and enhance the university’s existing graduate level initial certification programs at the secondary level. For the last two and a half years, she has been a faculty member in the Department of Special Education of the Johns Hopkins School of Education, where her research interests include teacher-education, learning disabilities, and instructional methodology.

Current responsibilities include coordinating an Autism Certificate Program in collaboration with the Maryland State Department of Education for Talbot, Kent, Caroline, Dorchester, and Queen Anne counties for the academic year of 2008-09 and Baltimore City and Baltimore County for the academic year of 2009-10. Serve as the project director of the Johns Hopkins University Secondary Support Initiative (JHUSSI), which is a collaborative special/general preservice improvement project that seeks to expand and enhance the university's existing graduate level initial certification programs at the secondary level; is responsible for overall administrative and supervision of the project, coordination of project team, project design and implementation, data management and analysis, and dissemination of the results. Coordinate Graduate Education Intern Special Education Partnership Program with the Baltimore City Public School System during the academic years of 2006-08, for students earning a Master of Science in Mild to Moderate Disabilities. Serve on the Committee on Diversity and Civility in the School of Education. Attend faculty meetings of the Department of Special Education and the School of Education.
