Application Requirements

Applicants should follow all instructions carefully to avoid delays in processing application materials. For assistance in completing your application, please call 410-516-9755. The application materials include:

  1. Completed doctoral application form.
  2. A resume and a personal statement of professional goals (not to exceed 250 words).
  3. Have official copies of the following sent directly to the School of Education: Graduate Record Examination scores taken within the past five years (GRE Test Code 5470), official transcripts from universities/colleges where graduate level courses and degrees were completed, and at least three recommendations submitted by:

    a. Two faculty members who are acquainted with your previous academic work, and

    b. A supervisor or administrator who has been in a position to oversee your professional development.
  4. Send all application materials to: Johns Hopkins University, School of Education, Chair of The Department of Teacher Development and Leadership, 6740 Alexander Bell Drive, Suite 180, Columbia, MD 21046. All materials must be received by March 6, 2009 to be considered for the next cohort.
  5. Enclose the application fee ($80 check or money order payable to Johns Hopkins University). The applicant's name must appear on the check or money order. The application fee is not refundable.

A screening committee will review the submitted information. A number of selected applicants will be invited to a second phase of the admission process, which will include:

  • an interview with members of the Admissions Committee
  • a writing assessment
