By Election or Appointment:

Center for Technology in Education Advisory Board
This group serves as a source of advice and counsel to guide the growth and development of the center. The mission of the Center for Technology in Education is to improve the quality of life of all children and youth, particularly those who have special needs, through teaching, research, and leadership in the uses of technology.

Department of Interdisciplinary Studies in Education Advisory Board
This advisory group is instrumental in helping the department make critical decisions concerning innovative initiatives that extend the scope of the department’s work in a) school leadership, b) Science Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), c) Neuro-Education, and d) interdisciplinary course work. Members work to enhance the image and standards of the department, as well as identify and facilitate access to new sources of philanthropic support, including the development of new partnerships and enhancing established partnerships between the department, corporations, foundations, and international organizations.

Department of Counseling and Human Services Advisory Board
Provides advice and counsel on matters relating to the counseling sector and issues addressed by the Department of Counseling and Human Services needed to chart a sustainable course for effectiveness. In particular, the board addresses pressing issues relating to current department projects, where focus should be placed, and how to accomplish new initiatives and funding.

National Advisory Council
Appointed by the Dean, the School of Education’s National Advisory Council serves as a critical source of advice and counsel to the Dean in setting the course for the School’s future. Membership is national in scope and is comprised of University trustees, alumni, business and public sector leaders, educators, and community members who share a commitment to improving P-12 education and to preparing leaders in this field. Members serve as ambassadors for the School, promoting its programs to external constituencies and working with the School’s leadership to ensure its strength and advancement.

Open to All:

Alumni Admissions Network
All alumni—from Baltimore to Boston, San Diego to Sarasota—are invited to help recruit students for the School of Education. Potential duties include participating in Open House events on all three campuses (Homewood, Columbia, Rockville), visiting college fairs and colleges (in areas beyond the Baltimore-DC region) to raise awareness of the SOE, answering screened email inquiries, and contacting admitted applicants. Hours are flexible.

Online Network for Education (ONE)
An informal network of volunteers who help facilitate e-communications, with an emphasis on developing sub-groups within disciplines where alums can recommend best practices, solicit feedback, and share resources and ideas, etc . Should be familiar with and comfortable using such tools as online communities (Facebook, inCircle, LinkedIn, etc.), blogs, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Those with limited technical experience are also welcome to write guest entries for the School’s new student blog, SOEtalk. With its focus on making connections through technology, ONE is an excellent volunteer opportunity for alumni who are not located in the Baltimore area.

Phi Delta Kappa (PDK)
A 100-year-old professional association for educators. This member-based association is a dedicated advocate for high-quality, public education around the world. PDK strives to prepare the next generation of educators through visionary leadership, research, and service. Alumni of the School of Education are eligible to join the Hopkins chapter.

Public Safety Leadership (PSL) Association

The PSL Association’s purpose is to exemplify the professional leadership of PSL graduates, students, and faculty by creating nationwide opportunities for networking and mentoring across all public safety professional settings. The PSL Association encourages interaction among the PSL community and all of public safety through lectures, seminars, discussions, field trips, and attendance at professional conferences. Additional goals are:

  • To network professionally and socially
  • To create a culture of pride in graduating from the Division of Public Safety Leadership at Johns Hopkins University School of Education
  • To enhance and foster professional development of students and alumni
  • To create a supportive environment for personal growth and career development for students and alumni
  • To develop funding resources for scholarships and other endeavors

Student and Alumni Counseling Association (SACA)
SACA fosters the socially conscious leadership of Johns Hopkins University counseling students and alumni by creating opportunities for networking and mentoring across a variety of professional settings. The organization encourages interaction among counseling students, faculty, alumni, and the counseling community through lectures, seminars, discussions, field trips, attendance at professional conferences, and other opportunities. There are currently chapters based on the Montgomery County and Homewood campuses. All counseling alumni are welcome to join and attend events, and can also serve as elected officers.
