Madeline Hanington, MAT ’03, Receives the 2011 Milken Educator Award
Madeline Hanington , who received a M.A. in Teaching with a focus in Elementary Education from the Johns Hopkins School of Education in 2003, was recently awarded the 2011 Milken Educator Award and $25,000 from the Milken Foundation.
Hanington is currently an English teacher at Gaithersburg Middle School, where she has stood out for her innovative teaching methods and extensive involvement in the Language Arts and World Language departments, as well as many extracurricular clubs.
Hanington told the GAZETTE: “I want my students to know that I am doing exactly what I was meant to be doing. I love teaching! They should love what they do. They should follow their dreams even though at times it seems like those dreams are unreachable. They aren’t.”
